Writing Super Sentences

Year 2 learn to write clear, interesting sentences using capital letters, full stops, conjunctions and adjectives.

# Writing Super Sentences

In Year 2 we learn to write sentences that are clear and interesting.

What a Sentence Needs

A sentence needs a capital letter at the start, words that make sense and a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark at the end. A sentence must also make complete sense on its own.

Making It Longer

You can join two short sentences with and, but or because. I went to the park and I played on the swings. The joining word is called a conjunction.

Adding Detail

Adjectives describe nouns and make writing more colourful. The big red ball tells us more than the ball. Adverbs describe verbs and tell us how something was done: She ran quickly.

Check Your Work

Read your sentence aloud. Does it start with a capital? Does it end with the right punctuation? Does it make sense? Checking your work is how good writers get better.
