Throwing and Catching

Year 3 develop throwing and catching skills for team games.

# Throwing and Catching

In Year 3 we build ball skills that help us play many games.

A Good Throw

Stand with one foot forward. Look at your target. Bring your arm back and throw smoothly. A controlled throw is better than a hard one.

A Safe Catch

Watch the ball all the way into your hands. Reach for it with soft fingers and pull it in towards your body. Soft hands stop the ball bouncing away.

Working with a Partner

Start close together and throw gently. As you get better, take a step back. Throwing and catching with a partner builds teamwork and trust.

Try It

Practise throwing a soft ball against a wall and catching it. Count how many catches you can do in a row without dropping it.
